Part 2: The Message - movies.thegioicho.com

The classroom remained frozen.

Mrs. Baxter stood beside her desk, staring at the students.

“Someone took a picture,” she repeated. “I heard it.”

Caleb lowered his eyes to his textbook.

His heart pounded so hard he was afraid the boy sitting beside him could hear it.

Under the desk, his fingers slowly unfolded a tiny piece of paper.

Three words were written across it.

Mom, please help.

Caleb had written the message during lunch.

He had planned to send it through his phone.

But Mrs. Baxter had confiscated every student’s phone that morning after claiming the class was becoming too distracted.

So Caleb had found another way.

He had passed the note to Marcus.

Marcus had passed it to Emily.

Emily was supposed to take it to the school office and ask them to call Caleb’s mother.

But someone had taken a picture of the note before it left the classroom.

And now Mrs. Baxter was looking for the person who had done it.

“Everyone put your hands where I can see them.”

Chairs scraped against the floor.

Students slowly raised their hands.

Caleb kept his right hand beneath the desk.

Mrs. Baxter walked between the rows.

Her heels clicked against the tile.

Click.

Click.

Click.

She stopped beside Caleb.

“Caleb.”

He looked up.

“Yes, ma’am?”

“What are you hiding?”

“Nothing.”

Mrs. Baxter smiled.

It was not a friendly smile.

“Then show me your hands.”

Caleb slowly placed both hands on the desk.

Mrs. Baxter stared at him.

Then she looked beneath the desk.

Nothing.

The note was gone.

Caleb swallowed.

Marcus had taken it.

Mrs. Baxter turned toward the rest of the classroom.

“Whoever took that photograph has until the bell rings to tell me.”

Nobody spoke.

She returned to the front.

Then the projector suddenly flickered.

The classroom went dark for half a second.

When the screen came back on, a photograph appeared.

Everyone gasped.

It was a picture of the note.

Mom, please help.

Mrs. Baxter’s face changed.

She immediately reached for the keyboard.

But before she could remove the image, another photograph appeared.

This one showed Caleb sitting alone in the hallway the previous afternoon.

His face was bruised.

A third photograph appeared.

Caleb standing outside Mrs. Baxter’s classroom with his backpack pressed against his chest.

Then another.

His hand covering a dark mark on his wrist.

The room fell silent.

Mrs. Baxter stared at the screen.

“Who did this?”

No one answered.

Then Caleb stood.

“I did.”

Every student turned toward him.

Mrs. Baxter’s eyes narrowed.

“You took these pictures?”

Caleb shook his head.

“No.”

“Then why did you say you did?”

“Because you keep asking.”

Mrs. Baxter walked toward him.

“You have been causing problems all week.”

Caleb’s voice trembled.

“I’ve been trying to tell someone.”

“Tell someone what?”

Caleb looked toward the classroom door.

“My mom.”

Mrs. Baxter’s expression hardened.

“Your mother already knows you’re having behavioral issues.”

Caleb shook his head.

“She doesn’t.”

“She does.”

“No,” Caleb whispered. “You never called her.”

The room became completely silent.

Mrs. Baxter stopped.

Caleb reached into his backpack and pulled out a folded piece of paper.

“This is what I wanted her to see.”

He handed it to Marcus.

Marcus unfolded it.

His eyes widened.

Then he passed it to Emily.

Within seconds, several students were reading it.

At the top were dates.

Below them were names.

And beside each name was a short sentence.

Caleb had been documenting everything.

The threats.

The punishments.

The locked storage room.

The bruises.

The nights he had been forced to stay after school alone.

Mrs. Baxter suddenly reached for the paper.

“Give that to me.”

Caleb pulled it away.

“No.”

“You are not allowed to have that.”

“Why?”

“Because it contains private information.”

Caleb stared at her.

“So does my body.”

Mrs. Baxter froze.

Then someone knocked on the classroom door.

Three sharp knocks.

Everyone turned.

The principal entered.

Behind him stood a woman Caleb recognized immediately.

His mother.

Caleb’s face went pale.

“Mom?”

She rushed across the classroom.

She dropped to her knees and grabbed her son’s shoulders.

“Oh my God.”

Caleb began crying.

His mother looked at the bruises on his wrist.

“Who did this?”

Caleb looked toward Mrs. Baxter.

Before he could answer, the principal stepped forward.

“Mrs. Carter, I think we should discuss this privately.”

She stood.

“No.”

The principal blinked.

“My son tried to contact me.”

“Yes, but—”

“He tried to contact me from inside this classroom.”

Mrs. Carter turned toward the students.

“Who took the pictures?”

No one spoke.

Then Emily raised her hand.

“I did.”

Mrs. Baxter’s face went white.

Emily stood.

“I took the first picture.”

She pulled out her phone.

“But I didn’t send it to Caleb’s mom.”

Mrs. Carter looked confused.

“Then who did?”

Emily slowly pointed toward the back of the room.

Everyone turned.

Caleb stared at the classroom computer.

A small green light was blinking beside the monitor.

Marcus whispered,

“That’s not the school computer.”

The principal stepped closer.

“What do you mean?”

Marcus pointed.

“That computer wasn’t here yesterday.”

Mrs. Baxter suddenly rushed toward it.

And that was when Caleb understood.

The photographs had never been sent from a student’s phone.

Someone had been watching them.

Someone inside the classroom.

Someone with access to everything.

Then the screen changed again.

A single sentence appeared.

ASK HER ABOUT ROOM 214.

Mrs. Carter looked at Mrs. Baxter.

“What is Room 214?”

Mrs. Baxter said nothing.

The principal’s face tightened.

And Caleb finally whispered,

“That’s where she took me.”
